mapsmaze

How to play

mapsmaze is a map puzzle and a memory game: a maze made of a real city's streets. You see the map for a few seconds, then it's gone, and you find your way to the address at street level.

Three phone screens from mapsmaze: the map to memorise, a junction at street level with arrows to choose from, and the delivery receipt with the score.

A round

  1. Study the map. You see the streets around you, where you start and where the letter goes, for a few seconds.
  2. Walk it from memory. The map goes away and you're in the street, at street level. Choose a street at each junction and run to the next one.
  3. Deliver the letter. Points for a direct route and a quick one; every peek back at the map costs 50.

You move junction to junction: at each one, arrows show the streets you can take. On a phone, tap an arrow; on a computer, use the arrow keys. You can also choose to walk freely instead.

Round types

Scoring

A delivery scores up to 1,000 points: up to 600 for how direct your route was compared with the shortest one, and up to 400 for your pace against par. Each peek at the map costs 50 points. A delivery earns one star from 350 points, two from 600 and three from 800.

The daily letter

Every day there's one letter for everyone, in one of the game's cities. Sign in and your first try goes on the day's leaderboard; then you can practise it as often as you like. Deliver letters to earn stamps; 30 stamps open another city.
