Find your way through Paris

mapsmaze is a free map puzzle game on the real streets of Paris. Study the map for a few seconds, then find your way to the address from memory, junction by junction, like a maze made of a real city.

Three phone screens from mapsmaze: the map to memorise, a junction at street level with arrows to choose from, and the delivery receipt with the score.

Where you play

Letters in Paris start in the 1st arrondissement, between the Louvre and Les Halles, on the city's real street map from OpenStreetMap.

Paris's streets

Paris mixes two cities: a medieval tangle of short streets, and the long straight boulevards cut through it in the nineteenth century. Finding the nearest straight avenue going your way is usually faster than threading the side streets, as long as you remember where it ends.

How a round goes

  1. Study the map. You see the streets of Paris, where you start and where the letter goes, for a few seconds.
  2. Walk it from memory. The map goes away and you're in the street, at street level. Choose a street at each junction and run to the next one.
  3. Deliver the letter. Points for a direct route and a quick one; every peek back at the map costs 50.

Play in Paris In your browser, on a phone or a computer. No download, no sign-up needed.

New players pick 3 cities to start with, so you can choose Paris straight away. Delivering letters earns stamps, which open more cities. The daily letter, the same for everyone, is set in one of the game's cities, and it could be this one.
